It’s Important to Communicate, Communicate, Communicate during COVID-19
Guest post – Mark Harris, Enterprise Doctor
It’s important for all businesses during this challenging time to still communicate with your network offline and online to ensure survival.
We live in challenging times and we’re working in challenging times! As a business advisor, a mentor, a coach, these are challenging times for me too! People are asking me questions I’ve never been asked before!
Everyone must recognise their own limitations, and I am happy to recognise mine. So many of them! When people ask me questions and I don’t know the answer, I point them at people who do – right now, that’s usually at a solicitor, an accountant or an HR expert.
But there are some things which never change, never stop being the right thing to do. Right now, as always the three things which should be at the top of your ‘to do’ list are…..
……communicate, communicate, communicate.
What does that mean? Well, different things for different people, and different things for different circumstances. It means…
- Pick up the phone and ‘check in’ with your contacts
- Post and send direct messages to your audience on Twitter and Facebook
- Write a blog (like I’m doing right now) and share it with your online audience
- Go networking (virtually of course)
- Sign up for online events and webinars – it’s not just about upskilling or learning it’s also an opportunity to interact with a new audience or re-engage with your network
- Write a LinkedIn article and comment on other peoples’ LinkedIn articles, get stuck into a conversation and give your point of view
But why? Because you need to get yourself in front of your customers, and your prospects. You need to remind them you’re there, what you do for a living, and most importantly how working with you will be of benefit to them.
I know the economy is a mess, but some people are still spending. You need to get your name and your business “out there”, get noticed, be understood, and if there is money around to be spent on what you do, then maybe people will spend it with you.
I can’t promise they will. But if you don’t communicate, I can pretty much promise they won’t!
