How to SEO your website pages for Google
Many business owners want to be able to manage their website themselves, but lack the technical expertise to be able to optimise their website for Google. I would like to say it’s pretty simple, but that is coming from an SEO expert. If you have basic knowledge of your website platform (WordPress, Wix or Squarespace for example) then this guide is for you.
Optimising your website is just one of the tasks that needs to be completed if you have any chance of featuring in search engine results.
All websites should have an SEO plug in installed or come with the software already built in. We use Yoast which is a plug in supported by WordPress. Sites like Wix and Squarespace already have this built in.
Here are our top tips on how to best optimise your website pages for SEO:
- Do your keyword research – use the Google Ad Keyword Planner to see which keywords are trending and have the highest search volumes
- Include the top searched for keyword in the page url, heading 1, image alt tags and within the content
- Add your top level keyword in the SEO section and include this in the meta title and description – this helps you to see you have covered everything
- Use secondary keywords within the content as well
- Add internal links to keywords to other pages around your website (link the keyword) i.e. if you are blogging about 2024 wedding trends, mention ‘wedding flowers’, make sure you link this to your wedding flower shop page.
- If you have written a few blogs along the same theme – add links to other useful blogs, i.e. “you might also be interested in discovering our 2025 wedding flower trends”
- Make sure you are linking to every new page/blog you write. It’s important they get traffic. Share these pages and blogs on your social media channels and link back to them
- All new website pages can be submitted to Google to force indexing – you can do this in Google Search Console
