What is new with Instagram?
Instagram was one of the top 5 most downloaded apps in both Google Play Store and App Store! The 10-year-old platform currently has over 1 billion users globally.
In the last year, the amount of time an average user spends on Instagram increased by 13.8%. This means there is an increased potential for you to reach your audience on Instagram.
You can now show Ads in reels
Instagram launched its ‘reels’ feature in August 2020, with similar features to major social platform TikTok. Instagram has finally taken on a new feature of ‘Ads in reels’ to increase engagement and provide other excellent ways for brands to reach users that have yet to be targeted.
Videos are more interactive than any photo!
“Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app” according to Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram. The company is looking to lean into entertainment and video after seeing the success of competitors like TikTok and YouTube in their ways of attracting the more modernised public.
Instagram insights are available for more than 60 days
A great benefit for small businesses is Instagram’s extension of insights viewing from 30 days to 60 days! The extension from 30 to 60 days boosts the capacity to measure results over a longer time and monitor cycles without relying on third-party apps.
New link stickers (over 10k followers)
Instagram has ditched the “swipe-up” link in Instagram Stories!
“The popular feature has historically allowed businesses and high-profile creators to direct their Story’s viewers to a website where they could learn more about a product, read an article, sign up for a service or do anything else the creator wanted to promote”
Instagram Shop launched last year and has now introduced ads in the Instagram Shop tab globally to make it easier for people to discover and shop from brands when they’re already in the mood to browse.
The new link sticker is much more visible and can be added anywhere on a post, allowing the creators full control of templates. So if you have over 10K followers, this is your time to shine!
Top changes to Facebook
Facebook Business Suite
Facebook Business Suite is in the process of rolling out some significant updates – imagine if you could split test your organic posts like you would when running Ads. Facebook business users can now test posts to see what works and what doesn’t work for them.
There is also another new addition to the business suite that allows you to manage emails and send out remarketing-focused emails –
Another great social media marketing tip for Facebook is the new messenger features will enable businesses to instantly connect and provide real-time communication with potential customers. Features like chat options within Ads, request a quote button on your Facebook page that allows users to request a quote from a brand through Messenger, and options to move people onto Whats app to instantly engage and get the information they need.
Reels have seen high engagement on Instagram so it’s no surprise that Facebook is now rolling these out. Could this help those businesses that have seen a decline in organic reach? We’ll have to wait and see
LinkedIn’s newest Social Media updates
LinkedIn Stories
LinkedIn has rolled out cover stories – we are so excited about this! Your cover story can be a 30-second video. You can use it to introduce yourself and tell them how you can help them. When you upload your cover story, your profile viewers will see an orange border around your profile image and a 3-second preview of the video.
What works on LinkedIn?
- Consistency is key – companies positing weekly get 2x more engagement on LinkedIn
- Including links in posts can pose 2x more engagement than without
- Videos can get 5X more engagement on your content, while live videos can get you 24x more engagement
- According to LinkedIn, senders get a 300% response rate from InMails compared to other email or messaging platforms. You have a 10%-25% response chance if you send messages to your prospects.

TikTok marketing tips
TikTok launched in 2016 and started off as a short video application with a 15 second time limit and after many users demanded more time they then updated it to 30 seconds and after this, in July 2021, the limit exceeded 3 minutes.
But now there has been speculations that some users have received notifications that a video limit up to 5 minutes long or even longer might be on the cards!
Back in July TikTok announced it is expanding its TikTok LIVE platform. Tik Tok allows creators to livestream to fans while responding to viewer comments and questions and accept virtual gifts. Now, the LIVE experience will include a number of new features for creators to make it more competitive with platforms like Instagram Live, including the option to go live with others, host Q&As, use moderators and improved keyword filters, and much more.
