Is TikTok worth it when it comes to Google searches?
While many feel that TikTok is not where their audience will be active is it still worth investing in if videos appear in Google search results and help your SEO performance?
The other day I found myself searching for an “authentic Italian restaurant near me” soon to discover that looking back at me in the search results were TikTok videos.
This got me thinking. Even though many of our clients’ audiences are not directly active on TikTok is it still worth investing for the sake of Google and SEO?
Let’s take a look….
What is TikTok?
TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create, share, and discover short videos. The app was developed by the Chinese tech company ByteDance and was launched in September 2016. TikTok quickly became popular among young people, with over 1 billion active users worldwide.
TikTok’s unique feature is the ability to create short, 15-second videos that can be set to music, sound effects, or other audio clips. The videos can be edited with a variety of filters, effects, and other creative tools to make them more engaging and entertaining.
Users can browse and discover videos by scrolling through their “For You” page, which is personalized based on their interests and activity on the app. Users can also follow other users, like and comment on videos, and share videos with their followers or other social media platforms.
In summary, TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create and share short videos with creative tools and features, and discover new content based on their interests and activity on the app.
Does it benefit Google?
While TikTok and Google are not directly related, TikTok’s popularity can indirectly benefit Google.
For example, many TikTok users share links to their TikTok videos on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. When people click on those links, they are taken to TikTok’s website, which can generate more traffic for the site.
Additionally, many people use Google to search for TikTok videos or to search for specific content creators on TikTok. This can generate more search queries and increase Google’s overall search volume.
In summary, while TikTok and Google are not directly related, TikTok’s popularity can indirectly benefit Google by generating more website traffic and search queries.
Does it help your SEO performance?
TikTok may not directly help with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) since the videos on the platform are not indexed by search engines like Google. However, there are ways that TikTok can indirectly affect SEO.
- Backlinks: If you create TikTok videos that link to your website, this can create backlinks to your site, which can improve your website’s authority and increase your search engine rankings.
- Social Signals: Social signals, such as likes, shares, and comments, can indirectly affect SEO. If your videos get a lot of engagement, this can signal to search engines that your content is popular and valuable, which can help boost your rankings.
- Brand Awareness: If you use TikTok to promote your brand, this can increase your brand’s visibility and recognition. When people search for your brand on Google or other search engines, they are more likely to find your website and social media profiles.
Overall, while TikTok may not directly impact SEO, it can indirectly affect your website’s rankings through backlinks, social signals, and brand awareness.
How do TikToks appear in Google?
TikTok videos do not appear in Google search results since TikTok does not allow search engines to crawl and index its content. However, there are a few ways that TikTok videos can indirectly appear in Google search results:
- User-generated content: If someone shares a TikTok video on a website or blog, it can appear in Google search results as part of the content on that page. In this case, the video itself would not be indexed by Google, but the page containing the video would be.
- Social media profiles: If you link your profile to your website or social media profiles, your videos may appear in search results when someone searches for your name or brand.
- Hashtags: If you use relevant hashtags on your videos, they may appear in search results on TikTok itself. If someone searches for that hashtag on Google, they may be directed to the platform where they can view the video.
Overall, TikTok videos themselves do not appear in Google search results, but they can indirectly appear through user-generated content, social media profiles, and relevant hashtags.
Is TikTok a reliable search engine?
TikTok is not a reliable search engine in the traditional sense. While it does have a search function that allows users to search for content and creators on the platform, it is primarily focused on finding videos or creators within the platform, rather than providing answers to specific queries or questions like a traditional search engine.
Additionally, the content on TikTok is user-generated, which means that the accuracy and reliability of the information may vary. This channel is primarily used for entertainment and sharing short videos, rather than providing reliable information on a wide range of topics.
In summary, while this channel may provide some information or answers to certain questions, it is not a reliable search engine in the traditional sense and is not designed to provide comprehensive or verified information on a wide range of topics.
